By Day 5, Team Malizia had reclaimed the overall lead after a back-and-forth battle at the front of the fleet, once again showing strong pace with another Super Sprint win. The gap between the leaders and the chasing pack has widened compared to earlier days, with United by the Ocean holding onto second place. Not all crews had a smooth day, however — MSIG Europe lost valuable time overnight dealing with gear trouble, dropping them well off the pace. Conditions remain demanding, with the fleet sailing hard on the wind in a strong breeze and squally weather expected to continue, and there’s growing talk that the fast conditions in the coming days could put the race’s 24-hour distance record within reach.
