35th AIDA Freediving World Championship 2025 – Day 5 Highlights

The fifth day of the 35th AIDA Freediving World Championship brought high anticipation and emotional twists as the Free Immersion (FIM) women’s event took center stage. With ideal sea conditions in Limassol Bay and a lineup of strong announcements—including a 100+ meter dive attempt—Day 5 delivered a mix of triumphunpredictability, and national pride.

What is Free Immersion (FIM)?

Free Immersion
is a core freediving discipline where athletes descend and ascend using only their arms to pull along a rope, without the use of fins or propulsion devices. Often considered the most meditative of the depth disciplines, FIM requires supreme equalization skill, body awareness, and breath control.

Women’s Free Immersion (FIM) Podium – Day 5 Highlights

  1. Zsófia Törőcsik (Hungary) – 98 meters
  2. Lauren Matevish (USA) – 86 meters
  3. Fatima Korok (Hungary) – 84 meters

Despite announcing the third-deepest dive, Zsófia Törőcsik claimed the gold medal in a surprise turn of events. Her clean execution earned her first-ever gold in a depth discipline, following her success at the 2025 AIDA Pool World Championship.

Key contenders faced challenges:

  • Enchante Gallardo (USA), who announced a dive just 1 meter below the world record, was unable to complete the surface protocol.
  • Kateryna Sadurska (Ukraine) made an early mistake at the start, demonstrating the fine margins that define elite freediving competition.

These unexpected results place Törőcsik at the top of the overall championship leaderboard after three disciplines.
