After taking an historic 13-8 drubbing to start the series with the Cardinals, scoring three in the opening inning had to feel like a change in fortune.
Keeping St. Louis hitless through the fifth certainly helped.
Even when the Cards finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth, off a two-run Thomas Saggese homer, Mookie Betts responded immediately to keep the three run lead.
But the Cards put up another two in the seventh, then equalized in the eighth. With neither team able to decide the contest in the ninth, we got some free baseball and St. Louis had a three-runn inning of their own.
Los Angeles managed to score a single run, but it wasn’t enough as they dropped the second of the series to the visitors.
The win edges St. Louis a little closer to a wildcard spot, while the Dodgers remain first in the NL West, despite having lost six of their last eight.
The series concludes Friday at 7:10 Pacific.
