Phoenix Raceway is hosting a IndyCar and NASCAR double header this weekend in which they share the same oval track for the first time.
IndyCar is up first this Friday. Practice went well until Felix Rosenqvist lost the rear of the car and backed into the wall. Daivd Malukas looked strong throughout the session, but the real surprise was Mick Schumacher as the fastest rookie at 11TH
Schumacher having finished last at St Pete was first to go out for Qualification, and he improved with his fastest time of the day.
Will Power’s season is not starting well as he once again struggled to get a handle on the Andretti setup and the car stepped out on him and into the wall. He will start last in Saturday’s race.
Mick’s pace was a hint that RLL was on to something as Graham went just a little quicker but it was Team Penske that was bringing the speed. Malukas went to the top on his run with several more to try and unseat him. His Penske teammates took their shots, first it was Newgarden and then McLaughlin with no luck. The last driver was Palou who could only manage 10th.
Young David Malukas is proving he is ready for the pressures of team Penske.
