Osvald Søe, Dagur Dan Thórhallsson and David Vazquez scored to help SDFC close Phase One with a victory;
SAN DIEGO (Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026) – San Diego FC (SDFC) concluded its participation in the 2026 Leagues Cup with a 3-2 win against Liga MX side Club Puebla at Snapdragon Stadium. Osvald Søe, David Vazquez and Dagur Dan Thórhallsson each scored for SDFC in the Club’s final Phase One match.
Søe gave SDFC the early lead, sending a header off a corner kick past Puebla goalkeeper Jesús Rodríguez from near the heart of the penalty box. Puebla tied the match at 1-1 when Kevin Velasco slid behind his defender to send a low shot past SDFC goalkeeper Duran Ferree. Vazquez and Thórhallsson scored in the second half to give the home side a 3-1 lead. Puebla scored late as Eduardo Mustre found the net in the 87th minute of the first-ever meeting between the clubs.
SDFC finished its second Leagues Cup with a 2-1-0 record, earning victories against Club Puebla and cross-border rival Club Tijuana Xolos on Aug. 9, while falling to Club América on Aug. 6 in Mexico City.
SDFC now returns to MLS action when the Club travels to Los Angeles to face LAFC at BMO Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 15. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT, with live coverage available on Apple TV and radio via San Diego Sports 760 AM.

SD – 1-0 – Osvald Søe (Jeppe Tverskov, Dagur Dan Thórhallsson) 4th minute: Osvald headed in the first goal of the match from near the center of the box off a corner kick by Dan Dagur Thórhallsson that was deflected to the Danish defender by Jeppe Tverskov.
PUE – 1-1 – Kevin Velasco, 30th minute: Velasco slid behind a defender to push in the ball and tie the match near the right post, beating Duran Ferree.
SD – 2-1 – David Vazquez (Bryce Duke), 76th minute: Vazquez headed the game-winner off a long cross from right to left from Duke. Vazquez outjumped his mark and sent his shot in for his first career Leagues Cup goal.
SD – 3-1 – Dagur Dan Thórhallson, 80th minute: Thórhallsson sent in a right-footed shot to the lower left side of the net after Rodriguez blocked an original shot by Thórhallson from just inside the penalty box.
PUE – 3-2 – Eduardo Mustre (Facundo Almada) 87’ minute: Almada cut the SDFC lead late in the match with a left-footed shot from the middle of the penalty box.
