Grayson Cole takes first place at the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour in Palm Desert, CA. His two rides of 87.6 were the best of the event, enough to propel him to the top of the standings. This was Cole’s first successful ride since January. On his preparation, Cole said he has to “trust the process.”
“With this sport, it can take your life at any time and you got to be able to overcome it. What I’ve done for so long, as soon as I crawl into the chute, the mental switches go.”
With his performance this past weekend, Cole catapulted himself to the top five in the overall Velocity Tour standings.
18 year old rookie Kingston Herrero was the only other rider to have multiple successful rides. Braidy Randolph, Zane Cook, Jairo Castellanos, Aaron Williams and Dakota Johnson round out the event standings.
Round one only saw three successful rides; Grayson Cole who scored 87.6 riding Keystone, 19 year old Jairo Castellanos and 18 year old rookie Kingston Herrero. Herrero logged his first successful ride of the tour with a score of 85.1. The championship round saw no successful rides.
Jaxton Mortenson dropped to 12th overall after he was unable to complete a ride. Despite the unsuccessful event, he still has championship aspirations.
“I’ve been trying to keep it a little bit secretive, but I am trying to win the velocity tour right now. If I could sneak into Corpus Christi and win that $50,000 being the underdog, that’d be pretty cool.”
Mortenson is just over 200 points behind 1st place with three events left before the championship.
