Major champion Hannah Green captured her second HSBC Women’s World Championship title and seventh LPGA Tour victory after a final-round 69 secured a one-shot win over American Auston Kim. Having previously won in 2024, Green becomes the third two-time champion of the event, joining Inbee Park and Jin Young Ko. The victory was made even more special as it marked her first win with her husband on the bag.
On how this win compares to the one in 2024…
“I think I’m far more emotional just because I was able to do it with my husband. I felt like, I played good in areas last year but it wasn’t very consistent at all, and I guess it has been a long time since I have had a trophy in my hand. When I did win Singapore two years ago, I went on to win two other tournaments that season and pretty much had my best season on tour. So having a win so early in the season gives me a bit more flexibility with the tournaments that I can play. So I’m hoping that this puts me in good stead for the rest of the year.”
On this being the first win with husband Jarryd on the bag…
“It’s been a really good couple weeks. My caddie that I usually work with, he’s trying to apply for a green card. So he can’t actually leave the U.S. at the moment. So it wasn’t really the plan going into the season, but luckily he was able to pick up bag for me. He’s put his golf clubs aside to look after me. It was absolutely a team effort out there today and the entire week the last two weeks, really. So it’s very special to be able to share the 7th win, my favourite number, with my husband.”
On HSBC’s renewal their sponsorship of this title sponsorship through 2030…
“It makes a big difference. They said this is one of the biggest events that HSBC support and for it to be women’s golf, and to have my name on this trophy twice now is massive. It’s not just what they for us on the golf course. You see the hospitality suite and the events they do throughout the week. A lot of planning goes into this, and obviously it’s well paid off, and I hope the clients and spectators and everyone has enjoyed the week because us players certainly have.”
On what the key moments were during the final round…
“I don’t really know moments but I think the birdie that I made on 15 was a big putt. That kind of gave me a bit more of a cushion going into the par 5 and I decided to lay up just because I wasn’t comfortable with that tee shot and ended up making par, and I perhaps made a couple soft bogeys coming in. I knew that I had enough of a lead to be able to get away with making mistakes coming down the stretch. But I think 15 was the real turning point.”
Auston Kim began the day tied for 6th place and posted a 3-under 69 in the final round, to finish solo second in the tournament.
On her thoughts of the week…
“Overall, I think it was a really solid week. A great way to start the year. I hit a lot of bad shots but I also hit a lot of good ones, and it was really confidence boosting. I hit all these bad shots, and I didn’t feel like I had anything chose to my A Game, but I was still able it pull off a result like this and play some really solid golf. Overall, I’m proud of myself, and there’s still a lot of work to do. It’s exciting.”
On having the support of her parents…
“I’m extremely lucky. Not a lot of kids can say that their parents are with them all the time. I think for someone who is in my position, it’s easy to take all the credit and say that I’m extremely disciplined or that I have everything planned out, all the dots over my I’s and T’s crossed. My mom and my dad are basically holding my life together, and they just allow me to play golf. I’m extremely fortunate to have two parents who do that for me. I appreciate them very, very much, and they do so much for me. I’m only here because of them.”
France’s Pauline Roussin-Bouchard fired an impressive 4-under 68 to finish the week in tied third alongside Australia’s Minjee Lee and American Angel Yin.
On taking nothing but positives from her week…
“I was trying to change my mindset for this week. Last week, was like, you can do better. You can do way better. This week every time I was telling myself that, I was trying to find the positive in every single thing, even though sometimes I’m asking my caddie, can you tell me the positive on this one because I really can’t see it. So I’m definitely going to take that dynamic for the rest of the season, and everything has been pretty much the same things. It just lines up really well. Playing good, mentally good, things were lightening up. So I’m glad it turned out to be a really, really about week.”
Three-time major champion Minjee Lee, who started the day tied for first alongside Hannah Green, had an up-and-down final round to finish T3, marking her fourth top-10 finish at this event.
On starting her season off here in Singapore…
“I always feel like it’s my first or second week to start the year. I’m always really looking forward to getting the year started, and especially being in Singapore and Marina Bay Sands is one of my sponsors, or Sands Group is one of my sponsors. It’s always nice to start in Singapore. The tournament’s always looked after us so well, so I just love coming back.”
American Angel Yin was in good spirits following her top three finish…
“I told my friend, if I can’t finish first, I want to finish second. So welcome to everybody who finished third with me but we get to take a cut from that. It’s great. I love when people play great golf, and she played great and is really deserving.”
