D-backs ruin Ohtani’s 100th career start. 

Diamondbacks beat the Dodgers in walkoff fashion to open up the series and keep their playoff hopes alive. 

Teoscar Hernandez opened the scoring in the top of the second with a solo blast, his 25th homer on the year. He followed that up with a 2 run triple in the top of the sixth. Ben Rortvedt added his first homer of the season in the 7th. Diamondbacks would not go quietly though. Jack Dreyer replaced Ohtani in the 7th and allowed 3 runs, including an Adrian del Castillo pinch hit 2 run home run. In the bottom of the ninth Jorge Barrosa hit a ball deep enough to score a sac fly. Geraldo Perdomo’s double would score the game winning run. 

In his 100th career start, Ohtani went 6 innings allowing no runs, 3 singles and striking out 8. Dave Roberts announced pregame that this would be Ohtani’s final start before the playoffs begin.

Diamondbacks starter Brandon Pfaadt turned in 6 innings of 4 run ball. Pfaadt went 9 scoreless innings in his last appearance against the Giants. 

The game comes 2 days after Corbin Carroll became the first player in Diamondbacks history to record 30+ homers and 30+ stolen bases in a season. He’s the 10th player in MLB history to also 

Since August 1st, D-backs are 28-19, third best record over that time in the NL, fifth best in the whole league. 

Dodgers clinched a postseason berth on Sept 19th, securing their 13th straight playoff appearance, the second longest playoff streak of all time. 

Since August 1st, Dodger starters have a 2.98 ERA, the best in baseball during that time. 

D-backs shortstop Geraldo Perdomo increased his hit streak to 12 games.
