Galaxy Hold on to Advance to Leagues Cup Semi-Final

The L.A. Galaxy will advance to the semi-final round of the League’s Cup, facing Seattle FC at home next Wednesday.

In a very physical game that somehow saw no red cards, the Galaxy quickly got on the board as captain Marco Reus forced an own goal in the 27th minute off a corner. Ten minutes later, he doubled the score with a breakaway and a right-footed shot from the center of the box.

Galaxy keeper Novak Mićović kept a clean sheet right up until the second-to-last minute of stoppage, when Alemão delivered a spinning kick to the back of the net. Unfortunately for the visitors, time expired before they could attempt to get the draw.

Elsewhere in the Leagues Cup quarter-finals:

  • Miami bested Tigres UANL 2-1
  • Orlando City SC and Deportivo Toluca F.C. went to PKs after 90 scoreless minutes, with Orlando winning 6:5. Orlando keeper Pedro Gallese was the hero of the match, stopping a try from Juan Domínguez, then turning around and scoring the winning goal.
  • Seattle Sounders FC and Club Puebla also had scoreless game move to penalties, with Seattle coming out ahead 4:3.

Inter Miami will host Orlando, ensuring an all-MLS final. Should the Galaxy best Seattle, that final will take place on the Galaxy’s home turf of Dignity Health Sports Park.
