Arlington, TX – October 11, 2025 — The Colombian national team delivered a dominant performance on Saturday night, defeating Mexico 4-0 in a World Cup preparation friendly at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
From the opening whistle, Colombia showed their intent and quality, leaving Mexico with more questions than answers as both teams continue their build-up toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The scoring opened in the 17th minute when defender Jhon Lucumí found the back of the net, capitalizing on a precise assist from veteran midfielder James Rodríguez. The play set the tone for what would become a challenging night for the Mexican defense.
Colombia doubled their lead in the 56th minute with a clinical finish from Luis Díaz. Once again, it was Rodríguez who orchestrated the goal, threading a perfect through ball that left Díaz one-on-one with Mexican goalkeeper Ángel Malagón.
Mexico struggled to mount a response, and Colombia continued to press. In the 70th minute, midfielder Jefferson Lerma pounced on a loose ball outside the penalty area and unleashed a thunderous strike to make it 3-0.
The rout was completed in the 87th minute when substitute Érick Sánchez converted a well-placed assist from Juan Fernando Quintero, sealing an emphatic victory for the South American side.
A crowd of 72,438 fans witnessed the commanding performance, which will no doubt boost Colombia’s confidence heading into the final stages of World Cup qualification. Meanwhile, the result leaves Mexico with significant tactical and structural issues to address ahead of their home tournament.
