Host nation Azerbaijan has been crowned World Champion after a one sided final in Baku.

There were some good moments for Hungary in the final but after Azerbaijan raced into a 3 goal lead inside 10 minutes, the game was over as a contest.

There wasn’t a spare seat inside the spectacular National Gymnastics Arena and the home crowd partied long into the night as they celebrated a memorable victory for their heroes.

The WMF World Cup was a memorable event anyway as the greatest Minifootball event in history was played out in such an amazing country in such a stunning venue, but having the home nation win, made the tournament the complete success for the Azerbaijani people.

Hungary did make the score respectable late on but it was Azerbaijan who won 4-2 to win their first ever WMF World Cup.

Normally the 3rd/4th placed play off, or Plate Final as it’s often known, is a game no one wants to take part in after getting so close to a final, but it couldn’t have been more different here as Balkan rivals, Montenegro and Serbia, were involved in a fiercely competitive match that saw 15 yellow cards and 1 red, as Serbia ran out comfortable 3-0 winners to waltz away with the bronze medals.
